Artist Statement

As a child, I hated helping my mother in the garden. One summer, I asked her why she enjoyed it so much. She told me that gardening gave her a palpable measure of success that her job didn’t always provide; the results of her labour were evident from the moment her hands touched the soil to the day she harvested. I understand that now.

Like my mother, I feel most fulfilled when I am creating something tangible. I am driven to create objects that exist physically and persist beyond the moment of their creation. This is why I love glass.

Although it is inherently fragile, glass has persisted throughout history with remarkable resilience, existing as both high art and functional objects, qualities that fascinate me. Glass, as a medium, demands focus: it is fluid and responsive in the flame, but once it cools, there is no going back. Every decision remains visible, revealing the careful, handcrafted process of lampwork. What begins as heat and movement settles into something lasting. Put simply, glass is beautiful and kind of magical.

My practice is rooted in the belief that making is an act of connection, translating fleeting moments into forms that persist and resonate beyond the studio. Each glass bead I make captures a specific moment in time, then leaves my hands to star in someone else’s story. I strive to create pieces that people cherish and carry with them for years to come.
